Weekly Work Logs / Samples

Week 1: 14.25 hours First week at the PAC 14. After introductions and a tour of the facilities, I was shown where all the equipment was kept. Luckily, the cameras were almost identical to the ones we use at school, so on my first day, I went out and filmed a "Station ID".I was told to capture the "bleak of winter" After that, I spent the rest of the week learning about the editing software, Final Cut Pro, and got my first originally created media piece on t.v. broadcast.

Week 2:14.5 hours (28.75 total) My week started with a filming trip to UMES to film the Lower Shore Autism Community (LASC) banquet with guest speaker Dr. Kerry Margo. After that trip, I filmed my second "Station ID". After filming only still shots in my last one, I looked to get more active movement. I went on campus of Salisbury University to try and film students moving to different classes to get better with my camera skills. After some editing and watching back my shots, I planned next week to get more "dynamic" action shots.

Week 3:14.5 hours (43.25 total) I went back to campus with my camera to find out that the weather dropped another 10 degrees and there weren't many people outside to get those "dynamic" shots I wanted. I got the action I wanted in my shots by highlighting the architecture or sculptures around campus to make the "Station ID" more exciting. After wrapping up my editing, my second media piece was on their broadcast. I wrapped up my week by starting to look into J.A. Inspire, to see how I could help with that production.

Week 4: 14.5 hours (57.75 total) After looking into JA Inspire, I started to create a script for the kids to read off of cue cards. After 4 of my cards were approved, I then started to look into my big personal project, a five minute plus documentary-like video on a local non-profit in the area. I found one whose values I really resonated with, and started to create a script for questions I would want to ask. JA Inspire 2025 script for the kids to follow

Week 5: 14.5 hours (72.25 total) After not hearing back from my original non-profit, I went back to my list and reached out to another one, this time confirming the interview and filming days before I started to make a script for interviewing. During this time I spent deep diving into their history, and finding others in the community who also wanted to talk about their positive impact.I wrapped up the week by going with my supervisor to the office where they do the city council meetings, and helped him align with two other installers, replace the t.v. they use for meetings to pull up graphs and other video/images. RRC Questions

Week 6: 14.5 hours (86.75 total) After my interview was scheduled, I wanted to make sure my camera skills were up to par. I looked at all my still and moving shots I took, and compared them to other shots that were approved by other producers in the past. I then took the camera out and just practiced some different angles and techniques I was shown. Then I took my professional photos that week, and started to prepare for JA Inspire by getting toys and fidgets for our table to look more exciting and to get them to come over.

Week 7: 16.75 (103.5 total) After helping pick out what to give away at the table, I sent over my cards to be printed large enough for the kids to see, and made sure to get to the Civic Center early on the day of the event to get parking and to make sure our cameras and table were set up. Then I spent the rest of that day convincing middle and high schoolers to come on camera and interview one another. It was honestly one of the most fun days I've had filming. Being in that position not that long ago, I remember the feeling of being on camera for the first time and doing interviews or saying jokes, and the fact that we were able to put there content on live t.v., and to see their reactions as well as there teachers reactions to it was an awesome experience.

Week 8: Spring Break (103.5 total) Nothing to report on here, but I did spend some of my downtime looking into different editing tips to remember just to help with my Final Cut Pro abilities.

Week 9: 14.5 hours (118 total) After JA Inspire, I started a new project to work on while I waited to do my local non-profit. After looking at older content that PAC 14 had put out, I started back up the game "Where Are We?" The premise of the game is to see a bunch of different close up shots, mixed in with some middle shots and landmarks, to reveal a wide shot of the location I was filming, and the goal is to get it done in the least amount of shots as possible. After spending a day filming, I got to work editing and really focusing on the right pacing for the show to keep the audience engaged. By the end of my week, I had it uploaded and running.

Week 10: 14.5 hours (132.5 total) I really enjoyed doing the "Where Are We" game show, so after reaching out to SUTV to come by and tour the facilities and to recruit for future interns or producers, I started to critique my first rendition of the game, to see where I could improve on filming wise. I then filmed and started to create my second "Where Are We". Using the same introductions and ending credits I created, I set up my template to start editing after making sure I had gotten every shot I wanted.

Week 11: 10.5 (143 total) After finalizing my second "Where Are We", I got it on t.v., and then made sure that my local non-profit was still good for our shoot later that week. After hearing the confirmation, I made one last revision on my interview questions and spent the day touring the facility of the Recovery Resource Center in Salisbury, MD. After filming some shots, I got to my interview process and really focused on telling the positives of recovery instead of focusing on the darker side of the story that is addiction. I knew this is where I wanted my story to go after seeing how positive, friendly and happy everyone was inside.

Week 12 14.5 hours (157.5 total) This week was all about editing and B-roll. I started to craft my timeline for the Local Non-Profit video. I spent time pulling up statistics to include and making clips out of the interview. I then unfortunately noticed that most of my outside shots had people in the background of them, and due to the rules of Recovery Resource Center, unless they volunteer to be on camera, I had to keep the faces of the people anonymous because recovery is different for everyone. While I completely understood, it did mean I had to go back and get some more outside B-roll. A nice break in the week was when I was able to give a tour of the PAC 14 to some of the SUTV kids who I knew at school. It was a fun tour to give and I was able to edit some "It's Friday" clips to show. They are small clips in front of a greenscreen, they shout "It's Friday!" to give some energy and excitement, and the most fun part was making bloopers as well to show them after.

Week 13 9.25 hours (166.75 total) Due to the office being closed the Monday after Easter, it took a little longer to start implementing that B-roll I had shot, but I spent the few days I was there that week doing what I consider "bulk editing". My timeline was finished and I made sure each clip was implemented, all the titles and transitions were completed. Not the most exciting week but I laid the groundwork for the final touches and I was close to being ready to show my supervisor and the organization itself my final product.

Week 14 14.5 hours (181.25 total) I went through and finalized my Local Non-Profit video. I focused a lot on audio levels in my finite editing. Finite editing to me is the small little touches you see as you play it over and over to make sure it is the best finished product. I sent it over to the organization to see if there were any criticisms, and while I waited for their approval, I started to prepare for an event called "Over the Edge". The premise is we are going to have people in harnesses repel down the side of a tower apartment building called "The Ross". I learned how to use GoPro cameras to transmet onto live t.v. and set them up to go filming next week at the event.

Week 15 1 hours (182.25 total) I spent the last few moments grabbing everything I needed for my webfolio, I also made sure that I was all squared away and that I said my goodbyes to the PAC 14 staff. They have all been amazing and I couldn't be more grateful for everything they have done for me.
